About fat grafting

Natural volume, naturally

As we age, the face loses volume as well as skin elasticity, which can leave the cheeks flatter, the temples hollow and the area under the eyes sunken.

Fat grafting takes a small amount of fat from an area such as the tummy or thighs using gentle liposuction. The fat is purified and then injected in tiny amounts where volume is needed.

Because it is your own tissue, results look and feel natural. Some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed in the first few months, so a second session is sometimes needed.

Facial fat grafting can help with

  • Flattened cheeks
  • Hollow temples
  • Sunken areas under the eyes
  • Deep folds around the mouth
  • Adding volume alongside a facelift

What it won’t do

  • Tighten loose skin or jowls on its own
  • Give a precisely predictable amount of lasting volume

Your journey

Your step-by-step journey

Your journey starts the moment you get in touch. From your first enquiry to your final check-up, you deal with the same small team, and you will always feel listened to, informed and never rushed.

Book a consultation →
01Step one

Get in touch

Call, email or send an enquiry. Our team replies promptly and personally, and finds a time and clinic that suit you.

There is no pressure and no sales script. Tell us a little about what prompted you to get in touch, and we will make sure your consultation is with the right person for you.

02Step two

Consultation

An unhurried, face-to-face appointment with Mr Kumar himself, who will be your surgeon from start to finish.

He listens to what you would like to change, examines you, explains every option, including non-surgical ones and doing nothing, and gives you an honest view of the likely result.

03Step three

Time to decide

You receive a written plan, a clear quote and your patient guide, then take as long as you need.

A second consultation is included before surgery, and there is a cooling-off period of at least two weeks. Bring someone with you, ask anything, and change your mind at any point.

04Step four

Day of treatment

Treatment usually takes one to two hours. Fat is collected through tiny incisions, prepared, and then injected with fine cannulas. You go home the same day.

He will see you beforehand to go through the plan and answer last-minute questions, and you will have clear instructions and a number to call once you go home.

05Step five

Aftercare and follow-up

Reviews at each stage of your recovery, with support 24 hours a day whenever you need it.

Follow-up appointments are included in your package price, and continue until you have healed and are happy with how things have settled. Swelling is greatest in the first week. The final result is judged from three to six months.

Recovery

Healing, step by step

Everyone heals at their own pace. This is a typical recovery, and Mr Kumar will give you a personal plan.

Days 1 to 3

Swelling and bruising of the face and the area the fat was taken from. Sleep with your head raised.

Week 1

Swelling begins to settle.

Weeks 1 to 2

Most people return to work.

Weeks 2 to 3

Bruising fades. Return to exercise.

3 to 6 months

The fat that survives settles and the final result appears.

Safety

Risks and staying safe

All surgery carries some risk. Mr Kumar will go through these with you in detail, and the patient guide covers them in full, so you can make an informed decision.

Possible risks

  • Some fat being reabsorbed, needing a top-up
  • Lumpiness or unevenness
  • Asymmetry, or too much or too little volume
  • Infection
  • Changes where the fat was taken, such as small dents
  • Very rarely, fat entering a blood vessel, which can be serious

Lowering your risk

  • Tell us about all medicines and supplements, especially blood thinners
  • Stop smoking and vaping well before and after surgery
  • Follow your aftercare plan and attend every follow-up
  • Call us at any time if something does not feel right

FAQs

Your questions, answered

How long do results last?

The fat that is still there after the first few months is long-lasting and ages naturally with you.

Is it better than fillers?

Fat grafting can treat larger areas and lasts longer, but involves a short procedure and more swelling. Fillers are quicker but temporary. Mr Kumar will discuss which suits you.

Can it be combined with a facelift?

Yes. Restoring volume while lifting gives a fresher, more natural result, and the two are often done in the same operation.

Will I need more than one session?

Sometimes. Because some fat is reabsorbed, a second, smaller session may be recommended.

How much does facial fat grafting cost?

The guide price starts from £2,300. Your final fee depends on your treatment plan and choice of hospital, and is confirmed in a written quote after consultation. Self-pay consultations cost £250.

Is it covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatment is not usually covered by health insurance. Where there is a medical reason, it may be. Insurers will need Mr Kumar’s full name, Siva Kumar Veeramani, and GMC number 6114710.

Thinking about facial fat grafting?

Start with an unhurried consultation with Mr Siva Kumar at The Ü Clinic in Sevenoaks or Oxted. Self-pay consultations cost £250.
