What is breast reduction?

Relief that you can feel

Very large breasts can cause back, neck and shoulder pain, grooves from bra straps, rashes under the breast and difficulty exercising. Many people also feel self-conscious.

Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) removes excess tissue, fat and skin, reshapes the breast and moves the nipple to a higher, more natural position.

The result is smaller, firmer and lifted breasts. Many patients say it is one of the best decisions they have made.

Breast reduction can help with

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Grooves from bra straps
  • Rashes and irritation under the breast
  • Difficulty exercising or finding clothes that fit
  • Breasts of different sizes

What it won’t do

  • Guarantee you can breastfeed in the future
  • Leave no scars (scars fade but are permanent)

Techniques

The incision that suits you

Vertical (lollipop)

A scar around the areola and straight down to the fold beneath the breast.

  • Best for: moderate reductions

Anchor (Wise pattern)

Adds a scar along the fold under the breast, allowing larger amounts of skin and tissue to be removed.

  • Best for: larger reductions

With liposuction

Liposuction can refine the sides of the chest and under the arm.

  • Best for: fullness at the sides
Often combined withLiposuctionTummy tuck

Your journey

Your step-by-step journey

Your journey starts the moment you get in touch. From your first enquiry to your final check-up, you deal with the same small team, and you will always feel listened to, informed and never rushed.

01Step one

Get in touch

Call, email or send an enquiry. Our team replies promptly and personally, and finds a time and clinic that suit you.

There is no pressure and no sales script. Tell us a little about what prompted you to get in touch, and we will make sure your consultation is with the right person for you.

02Step two

Consultation

An unhurried, face-to-face appointment with Mr Kumar himself, who will be your surgeon from start to finish.

He listens to what you would like to change, examines you, explains every option, including non-surgical ones and doing nothing, and gives you an honest view of the likely result.

03Step three

Time to decide

You receive a written plan, a clear quote and your patient guide, then take as long as you need.

A second consultation is included before surgery, and there is a cooling-off period of at least two weeks. Bring someone with you, ask anything, and change your mind at any point.

04Step four

Day of treatment

Surgery takes about three hours under general anaesthetic, and you stay one night in hospital.

He will see you beforehand to go through the plan and answer last-minute questions, and you will have clear instructions and a number to call once you go home.

05Step five

Aftercare and follow-up

Reviews at each stage of your recovery, with support 24 hours a day whenever you need it.

Follow-up appointments are included in your package price, and continue until you have healed and are happy with how things have settled. Wound checks and dressings continue for the first few weeks.

Recovery

Healing, step by step

Everyone heals at their own pace. This is a typical recovery, and Mr Kumar will give you a personal plan.

Days 1 to 3

Discomfort and tightness, controlled with painkillers. Wear your support bra.

Weeks 1 to 2

Most people return to desk work. Avoid lifting and stretching.

Week 2

Driving is usually possible.

Week 6

Return to exercise and normal sleeping positions.

6 to 12 months

The breasts settle and the scars gradually fade.
