About lipomas
Harmless, but often bothersome
Lipomas are benign, soft lumps of fatty tissue that grow slowly under the skin. They are usually painless, but they can be unsightly or press on nearby structures.
Most are removed by excision through a small incision. Some smaller, superficial lipomas can be treated with liposuction, leaving a smaller scar.
Larger or deeper lipomas may need a scan beforehand and occasionally a general anaesthetic.
Lipoma removal can help with
- Lumps that are growing
- Discomfort or pressure
- Lumps that affect your appearance
- Confirming the diagnosis
Techniques
Two ways to remove a lipoma
Excision
The lipoma is cut out completely through an incision over it.
- Best for: larger or deeper lipomas
Liposuction
The fatty tissue is suctioned out through a small incision.
- Best for: smaller lipomas close to the surface

I had a deep Lipoma in my back causing daily discomfort. Mr Kumar put me at ease immediately with his calm, charming manner and explained the process of removal in detail. He did superb work in a challenging surgery and gave me a detailed analysis following the procedure. …
I was so happy with the service and support I received through the whole process. I cannot fault it and feel really lucky to be able to have my issue resolved with such excellence
Mr Siva Kumar was very professional throughout the consultancy and let me know what was going to happen. The procedure itself went very well and i couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The aftercare given to me by the whole team and staff at KIMS was excellent.
