What is rhinoplasty?

Reshaping the nose, naturally

Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a nose job, reshapes the bone and cartilage of the nose. It can address a hump on the bridge, a crooked or asymmetric nose, a wide or bulbous tip, or a nose that is out of proportion with the face.

The operation is done through small incisions inside the nose or across the narrow strip between the nostrils. Where support is needed, cartilage can be taken from inside your own nose.

Because the nose sits at the centre of the face, small changes make a big difference. Planning is careful and based on your features and goals.

Rhinoplasty can help with

  • A hump on the bridge of the nose
  • A crooked or asymmetric nose
  • A wide, drooping or bulbous tip
  • Wide nostrils
  • Breathing problems from a deviated septum

What it won’t do

  • Give you someone else’s nose
  • Show the final shape straight away (swelling takes months to settle)

Options

The right approach for your nose

Closed rhinoplasty

All incisions are made inside the nose, leaving no visible external scar.

  • Best for: smaller changes to the bridge or tip

Open rhinoplasty

A small incision across the base of the nose gives a direct view of the structures, allowing precise reshaping.

  • Best for: more complex changes, especially to the tip

Septorhinoplasty

Reshapes the outside of the nose and straightens the septum inside to help your breathing.

  • Best for: a crooked nose with blocked breathing

Your journey

Your step-by-step journey

Your journey starts the moment you get in touch. From your first enquiry to your final check-up, you deal with the same small team, and you will always feel listened to, informed and never rushed.

Book a consultation →
01Step one

Get in touch

Call, email or send an enquiry. Our team replies promptly and personally, and finds a time and clinic that suit you.

There is no pressure and no sales script. Tell us a little about what prompted you to get in touch, and we will make sure your consultation is with the right person for you.

02Step two

Consultation

An unhurried, face-to-face appointment with Mr Kumar himself, who will be your surgeon from start to finish.

He listens to what you would like to change, examines you, explains every option, including non-surgical ones and doing nothing, and gives you an honest view of the likely result.

03Step three

Time to decide

You receive a written plan, a clear quote and your patient guide, then take as long as you need.

A second consultation is included before surgery, and there is a cooling-off period of at least two weeks. Bring someone with you, ask anything, and change your mind at any point.

04Step four

Day of treatment

Surgery takes two to three hours under general anaesthetic. You may go home the same day or stay one night, with a splint on your nose.

He will see you beforehand to go through the plan and answer last-minute questions, and you will have clear instructions and a number to call once you go home.

05Step five

Aftercare and follow-up

Reviews at each stage of your recovery, with support 24 hours a day whenever you need it.

Follow-up appointments are included in your package price, and continue until you have healed and are happy with how things have settled. The splint is removed after about a week.

Recovery

Healing, step by step

Everyone heals at their own pace. This is a typical recovery, and Mr Kumar will give you a personal plan.

Week 1

Swelling and bruising around the eyes. A splint protects the nose and is removed at about a week.

Week 2

Most bruising has faded and most people return to work.

Weeks 4 to 6

Return to exercise. Avoid glasses resting on the nose until advised.

3 months

Return to contact sports if your surgeon agrees.

12 months

The final shape settles, especially at the tip.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

How old do I need to be?

The nose needs to have finished growing, usually by the late teens. Mr Kumar will also want to be sure you are making the decision for yourself.

Will there be visible scars?

With a closed approach there are none. With an open approach there is a small scar under the nose that usually becomes very hard to see.

When will I see the final result?

Most swelling settles within a few weeks, but the final shape, especially at the tip, can take up to a year.

Can rhinoplasty improve my breathing?

Yes. Straightening the septum at the same time (septorhinoplasty) can help if a deviated septum blocks your breathing.

Rhinoplasty: what is the guide price?

The guide price starts from £6,500. Your final fee depends on your treatment plan and choice of hospital, and is confirmed in a written quote after consultation. Self-pay consultations cost £250.

Is it covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatment is not usually covered by health insurance. Where there is a medical reason, it may be. Insurers will need Mr Kumar’s full name, Siva Kumar Veeramani, and GMC number 6114710.
