About nipple surgery

Small changes, real confidence

Inverted nipples turn inwards rather than pointing out. They can be present from birth or develop later, and can affect confidence, hygiene and breastfeeding. A nipple that has turned in recently should always be checked first.

Inverted nipple correction releases the tight tissue holding the nipple in, through a small incision at its base, and then supports it in its new position.

Nipple reduction reduces the height or width of nipples that feel too large or prominent. Both operations are short, are usually done under local anaesthetic, and are suitable for women and men.

Nipple surgery can help with

  • Nipples that turn inwards
  • Nipples that are long, wide or prominent
  • Nipples that are uneven
  • Self-consciousness in clothing or swimwear

What it won’t do

  • Guarantee the nipple will never turn in again
  • Preserve breastfeeding in every case

Options

Two operations

Some people have both, and either can be combined with other breast surgery.

Inverted nipple correction

Tight bands and short ducts under the nipple are released, and the nipple is supported so that it stays out.

  • Best for: nipples that point inwards

Nipple reduction

A small amount of tissue is removed to reduce the height or width of the nipple, keeping a natural shape.

  • Best for: long, wide or prominent nipples

Your journey

Your step-by-step journey

Your journey starts the moment you get in touch. From your first enquiry to your final check-up, you deal with the same small team, and you will always feel listened to, informed and never rushed.

01Step one

Get in touch

Call, email or send an enquiry. Our team replies promptly and personally, and finds a time and clinic that suit you.

There is no pressure and no sales script. Tell us a little about what prompted you to get in touch, and we will make sure your consultation is with the right person for you.

02Step two

Consultation

An unhurried, face-to-face appointment with Mr Kumar himself, who will be your surgeon from start to finish.

He listens to what you would like to change, examines you, explains every option, including non-surgical ones and doing nothing, and gives you an honest view of the likely result.

03Step three

Time to decide

You receive a written plan, a clear quote and your patient guide, then take as long as you need.

A second consultation is included before surgery, and there is a cooling-off period of at least two weeks. Bring someone with you, ask anything, and change your mind at any point.

04Step four

Day of treatment

Surgery takes 30 to 60 minutes, usually under local anaesthetic, and you go home straight afterwards.

He will see you beforehand to go through the plan and answer last-minute questions, and you will have clear instructions and a number to call once you go home.

05Step five

Aftercare and follow-up

Reviews at each stage of your recovery, with support 24 hours a day whenever you need it.

Follow-up appointments are included in your package price, and continue until you have healed and are happy with how things have settled. Keep the dressings dry and avoid pressure on the nipples for the first week.

Recovery

Healing, step by step

Everyone heals at their own pace. This is a typical recovery, and Mr Kumar will give you a personal plan.

Days 1 to 3

Mild soreness and swelling. Wear a soft, supportive bra.

Week 1

Dressings are changed and the wounds checked.

Week 2

Return to exercise and swimming once healed.

3 months

Scars fade and the final shape settles.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Will I be able to breastfeed afterwards?

Possibly not. Correcting or reducing a nipple can divide some milk ducts. If you plan to breastfeed in future, talk this through with Mr Kumar first.

Is it painful?

The area is numbed, so you should feel little during surgery, and most people need only simple pain relief afterwards.

Can men have nipple surgery?

Yes. Nipple reduction is often combined with male breast reduction.

Will the nipple turn in again?

Most stay corrected, but inversion can return, particularly in more severe cases.

Is it covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatment is not usually covered by health insurance. Where there is a medical reason, it may be. Insurers will need Mr Kumar’s full name, Siva Kumar Veeramani, and GMC number 6114710.

Thinking about nipple surgery?

Start with an unhurried consultation with Mr Siva Kumar at The Ü Clinic in Sevenoaks or Oxted. Self-pay consultations cost £250.
