The package
What you are paying for
A breast reduction removes breast tissue, fat and skin to give smaller, lighter and lifted breasts. Many women come for neck, back or shoulder pain, grooves from bra straps or rashes under the breast, as well as for how their breasts look.
Surgery takes about three hours under general anaesthetic, usually with one night in hospital. The guide price covers your surgery and aftercare as one package.
Your package price usually includes
- Your surgeon’s fee: Mr Kumar performs your surgery personally
- The consultant anaesthetist’s fee, where an anaesthetic is needed
- Hospital and theatre fees, at a CQC-registered hospital
- A set number of follow-up appointments
- Aftercare and support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Everything in writing, with no pressure to proceed
Your quote
What affects the price
Every treatment is planned around you, so the guide price is a starting point. These are the main things that shape your final quote.
How much is removed
The amount of tissue removed and the scar pattern needed, around the nipple and down, sometimes with a short scar in the fold, affect the length of the operation.
Liposuction to the sides
Fat under the arms and at the sides of the chest can be treated with liposuction at the same time.
Correcting a difference in size
If one breast is larger than the other, the plan is tailored to each side.
Your choice of hospital
Hospital fees differ, so the price depends on which partner hospital you choose.
Paying for treatment
Insurance and finance
Breast reduction is sometimes covered by private medical insurance when it is needed for medical reasons, such as persistent back or neck pain, subject to your policy and your insurer’s criteria. NHS availability is limited and varies by area. Self-pay is always available.
KIMS Hospital and The McIndoe Centre offer finance packages to help spread the cost. Details are on their own websites. These are third-party finance companies, not affiliated with Mr Kumar.
Other things to plan for
- Time off work: about two weeks for desk work, longer for physical jobs
- A supportive post-surgery bra, worn day and night for around six weeks
- No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for about six weeks
- Someone to take you home and help for the first few days
Comparing quotes
Why prices vary
Prices vary because surgeons include different things. When you compare quotes, check whether each one includes the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, hospital and theatre fees, any overnight stay and your follow-up appointments.
Some quotes leave out the overnight stay or the post-surgery bra. Check that your follow-up appointments are with the surgeon who operated on you.
Surgery abroad can look cheaper, but you are far from your surgeon if you need help while you recover. With Mr Kumar you are cared for in CQC-registered facilities close to home, with support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
FAQs
Cost questions, answered
How much does a breast reduction cost?
Breast reduction with Mr Siva Kumar starts from £9,500. Your final fee depends on your treatment plan and the hospital you choose, and is confirmed in writing after your consultation.
Is breast reduction covered by insurance?
Sometimes. If you have symptoms such as back, neck or shoulder pain, your insurer may cover it, subject to your policy. Check with your insurer before you book, as many ask for a GP referral.
Can I breastfeed after a breast reduction?
Many women can, but it cannot be guaranteed, because some milk ducts may be divided. If you are planning more children, talk to Mr Kumar about timing.
Are the results permanent?
The reduction is permanent, but breasts still change with weight, pregnancy and age.
How much is a consultation?
For self-pay patients, a first consultation is £250 and a follow-up consultation is £150. If you go ahead, your package includes a set number of follow-up consultations to see you through recovery.
Can I pay in instalments?
KIMS Hospital and The McIndoe Centre offer finance packages to help spread the cost. Details are on their own websites. These are third-party finance companies, not affiliated with Mr Kumar.
