At a glance
What is CO₂ laser resurfacing?
Precise energy, lasting improvement
CO₂ laser resurfacing is an established, highly effective treatment for skin quality. It delivers precise laser energy into the skin, creating controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and natural regeneration.
It treats fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, uneven tone, enlarged pores and some types of scarring, working on both the surface and the deeper layers.
The depth and intensity are tailored to your skin and the downtime you can allow. It can also be combined with surgery such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.
CO₂ laser can help with
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage and uneven tone
- Enlarged pores
- Acne and surgical scars
- Stretch marks, such as on the tummy after pregnancy
- Crepey skin around the eyes and mouth
- Mild hooding of the upper eyelids (a mini-bleph)
What it won’t do
- Lift sagging skin like a facelift
- Remove larger amounts of eyelid skin or fat (this needs eyelid surgery)
- Suit every skin type equally (darker skin needs careful assessment)
How it is used
Full face or targeted
CO2 laser can treat the whole face, or focus on one area such as the eyelids, a scar or stretch marks.
Full face resurfacing
Treats lines, sun damage, uneven tone and enlarged pores across the whole face, for an overall improvement in skin quality.
- Best for: widespread lines, sun damage and uneven texture
Mini-bleph (Madonna eyelift)
Fractional CO2 laser to the upper and lower eyelids tightens and smooths the skin without surgery, for a fresher, more open look.
- Best for: earlier changes in younger people, a more modest change, or maintenance after previous eyelid surgery
- Compare with eyelid surgery
Scar resurfacing
Smooths textured acne scars and softens surgical scars, on its own or a few months after scar surgery.
- Best for: acne scars and uneven or raised surgical scars
- Acne scars · Scar revision
Stretch marks
Stretch marks are a type of scar. CO2 laser remodels the stretched skin and builds new collagen, making the marks flatter, smoother and less noticeable. Most people need a course of treatments.
- Best for: stretch marks on the tummy after pregnancy, and on the hips, thighs or breasts
- Loose skin too? See tummy tuck

FAQs
Your questions, answered
How much downtime is there?
Usually five to ten days of redness and peeling, depending on the depth of treatment.
Is it suitable for darker skin?
It needs careful assessment, as there is a higher risk of pigment changes. Mr Kumar will advise whether it is right for you.
Can it be done with surgery?
Yes, it is often combined with a facelift or eyelid surgery to improve skin quality at the same time.
What is a mini-bleph or Madonna eyelift?
A mini-bleph, also called a Madonna eyelift or Madonna lift, is CO2 laser treatment to the eyelids. It tightens and smooths the eyelid skin without surgery, and suits earlier changes in younger people, anyone wanting a more modest change, and maintenance after previous eyelid surgery. Expect around a week of swelling and redness. Larger amounts of excess skin or fat need an upper blepharoplasty instead.
CO₂ laser resurfacing: what is the guide price?
The guide price starts from £599. Your final fee depends on your treatment plan and choice of hospital, and is confirmed in a written quote after consultation. Self-pay consultations cost £250.
Is it covered by insurance?
Cosmetic treatment is not usually covered by health insurance. Where there is a medical reason, it may be. Insurers will need Mr Kumar’s full name, Siva Kumar Veeramani, and GMC number 6114710.
