Liposuction for men

Stubborn fat, male patterns

Men tend to store fat around the flanks, or love handles, the tummy, the chest, under the chin and across the back. These areas can stay stubborn even with regular exercise and a good diet.

Liposuction removes fat through small cuts of a few millimetres, using a fine tube called a cannula. Male fat is usually firmer and more fibrous than female fat, so it takes more work to remove and is often treated with power-assisted equipment. Mr Kumar treats the areas in proportion, so the result looks natural rather than over-done. Our main liposuction page explains the procedure in more detail.

It is important to be clear about the tummy. Liposuction removes the fat under the skin, which you can pinch. It cannot remove the deep (visceral) fat that sits behind the stomach muscles, around the organs. A firm, round belly that feels tight when you press it is usually deep fat, which only weight loss and exercise can reduce.

Where the skin is a little loose, liposuction can be combined with BodyTite skin tightening. A fuller chest may be gynaecomastia, which usually needs gland removal as well as liposuction.

Liposuction for men can help with

  • Love handles and flanks
  • Fat on the lower and upper tummy that you can pinch
  • A fatty chest, often with gland removal
  • Fat under the chin and along the jawline
  • Rolls of fat on the upper and lower back

What liposuction won’t do

  • Remove deep (visceral) fat behind the stomach muscles
  • Replace weight loss, or treat a large amount of weight
  • Tighten a lot of loose skin, which may need skin removal surgery
  • Give visible abs on its own

Mr Kumar’s view

An honest look at what lipo can do

This quick check helps show whether liposuction is likely to help your tummy.

If you can pinch it, liposuction can usually help. If your belly is firm and round and you can’t pinch much, the fat is deeper, and I would rather tell you that at the start than book you in for a result you won’t see.

Areas treated

Where men most often ask about

Most men have one to three areas treated together. Mr Kumar will advise which areas will make the most difference to your shape, and which are better left alone.

Most common

Love handles and flanks

Removes the fat that sits above the belt at the sides, often treated together with the tummy and lower back for a smooth outline.

  • Best for: a stubborn bulge above the waistband

Tummy

Treats the fat you can pinch on the upper and lower tummy. It does not remove the deep fat behind the muscles.

  • Best for: pinchable fat, with a stable weight

Chest

Removes fat from the chest. If there is firm gland behind the nipple, this is removed through a small cut at the edge of the areola.

Under the chin

Removes fat under the chin and along the jawline through tiny cuts, for a sharper profile, usually under local anaesthetic.

  • Best for: fat under the chin with good skin

Back

Treats rolls of fat on the upper and lower back, often together with the flanks.

  • Best for: back rolls under a fitted shirt
With skin tightening

Liposuction with BodyTite

Radiofrequency heat under the skin, through the same small cuts, helps the skin contract over the treated area.

Your journey starts the moment you get in touch. From your first enquiry to your final check-up, you deal with the same small team, and you will always feel listened to, informed and never rushed.

Book a consultation →
01Step one

Get in touch

Call, email or send an enquiry. Our team replies promptly and personally, and finds a time and clinic that suit you.

There is no pressure and no sales script. Tell us a little about what prompted you to get in touch, and we will make sure your consultation is with the right person for you.

02Step two

Consultation

An unhurried, face-to-face appointment with Mr Kumar himself, who will be your surgeon from start to finish.

He listens to what you would like to change, examines you, explains every option, including non-surgical ones and doing nothing, and gives you an honest view of the likely result.

03Step three

Time to decide

You receive a written plan, a clear quote and your patient guide, then take as long as you need.

A second consultation is included before surgery, and there is a cooling-off period of at least two weeks. Bring someone with you, ask anything, and change your mind at any point.

04Step four

Day of treatment

Most liposuction for men is done under general anaesthetic, or under local anaesthetic with sedation for smaller areas such as the chin. It takes one to three hours, depending on the areas treated. The cuts are a few millimetres long, you put on a compression garment before you leave, and most men go home the same day.

He will see you beforehand to go through the plan and answer last-minute questions, and you will have clear instructions and a number to call once you go home.

05Step five

Aftercare and follow-up

Reviews at each stage of your recovery, with support 24 hours a day whenever you need it.

Follow-up appointments are included in your package price, and continue until you have healed and are happy with how things have settled. Your wounds are checked at about a week, with further reviews as the swelling settles.

Recovery

Healing, step by step

Everyone heals at their own pace. This is a typical recovery, and Mr Kumar will give you a personal plan.

Days 1 to 3

Rest at home. Expect bruising, swelling and some fluid leaking from the small cuts. Wear your compression garment day and night.

Week 1

Most men return to desk work after three to seven days. Walk every day.

Weeks 2 to 4

Light cardio from about two weeks. Keep wearing your compression garment.

Weeks 4 to 6 onwards

Back to weights and full training from about four to six weeks, building up gradually. The final shape shows at three to six months.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Is liposuction worth it for men?

For men with stubborn areas of fat, at a stable, healthy weight, liposuction can make a real difference to shape and how clothes fit. It is not a way to lose weight, and it cannot remove the deep fat behind the stomach muscles, so Mr Kumar will tell you honestly whether it is likely to give you the change you want.

Can liposuction remove belly fat in men?

It can remove the fat under the skin that you can pinch. It cannot remove the deep (visceral) fat behind the stomach muscles, around the organs, which is what makes many men’s bellies firm and round. Only weight loss and exercise reduce that fat, and it is also the fat most linked to health risks.

Can liposuction get rid of love handles?

Yes. The flanks are one of the most common and most rewarding areas for men, because the fat there is usually under the skin and resists exercise. They are often treated together with the tummy and lower back for a smooth outline.

When can I go back to the gym after liposuction?

Walking from the first day, light cardio from about two weeks, and weights and full training from about four to six weeks, building up gradually. Mr Kumar will give you a plan based on the areas treated.

Will the fat come back?

The fat cells removed do not grow back. The remaining fat cells can still grow if you put on weight, sometimes in untreated areas, so the result lasts best at a stable weight.

Is my chest fat or gynaecomastia?

A soft chest that feels like the rest of your body fat is usually fat, which liposuction can treat. A firm, rubbery disc behind the nipple is gland, which needs to be removed through a small cut. Many men have both. Mr Kumar will examine you and explain which you have.

How much fat can be removed?

Liposuction is for shape, not weight. The safe amount depends on your size and the areas treated, and it is usually a few litres at most in one session. Removing more raises the risks.

How much does liposuction for men cost in the UK?

The guide price starts from £2,995. Your final fee depends on your treatment plan and choice of hospital, and is confirmed in a written quote after consultation. Self-pay consultations cost £250.

Is it covered by insurance?

Cosmetic treatment is not usually covered by health insurance. Where there is a medical reason, it may be. Insurers will need Mr Kumar’s full name, Siva Kumar Veeramani, and GMC number 6114710.
